FORT WORTH, Texas — Fresh off his PGA Championship victory, Scottie Scheffler is back in action at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial. The world No. 1 golfer is not here for a victory lap but to compete and possibly make history.

Scheffler, who recently won his third major, is on the brink of becoming the first player since Dustin Johnson in 2017 to win three consecutive PGA Tour starts. This marks the fourth time since 2022 that Scheffler has had the opportunity to achieve this rare feat.

"I didn't just show up here to Fort Worth to walk around and celebrate last week," Scheffler said on Wednesday. "I'm here for a reason, and that's not to just play a couple of ceremonious rounds and then ride off into the sunset. I'm here to compete."

Colonial holds a special place for Scheffler, who has finished in the top three with a pair of runner-ups in the past three years. The Texas native appreciates the chance to sleep in his own bed and play in front of family and friends.

"I think any time I can sleep in my own bed and play a golf tournament, it's a nice thing," Scheffler said. "I love the golf course here. I think it's a great test. That's also one of the big reasons I try to come to this event each year."

Scheffler's recent victories include the CJ Cup Byron Nelson north of Dallas and the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. His success has also placed him among golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the only players with 15 victories before turning 29.

When asked about his emotional cap slam after winning the PGA, Scheffler joked, "When I played football, I didn't score very many touchdowns, so I wasn't too experienced in that. I just kind of let my emotions out a little bit."

Only one player has celebrated on the 18th green of both the Byron Nelson and Colonial in the same year: Ben Hogan in 1946. Scheffler has the chance to join this exclusive club this week.
