Paris, May 23, 2025 — Benjamin Hassan has etched his name in the annals of Lebanese tennis history by becoming the first player from Lebanon to qualify for the main draw of the French Open in the Open era. The 30-year-old achieved this remarkable feat by defeating Japan's James Trotter with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the final round of qualifying.

Hassan, who was born in Germany, secured his spot at Roland-Garros by winning three consecutive matches in the qualifying tournament on the iconic clay courts of Paris. Currently ranked No. 177 in the world, Hassan has been a trailblazer for Lebanese tennis, consistently breaking new ground.

This is not the first time Hassan has made headlines. Last summer, during the Paris Olympics held at Roland-Garros, he became the first Lebanese player to represent his country in the tournament. He defeated American Christopher Eubanks in the first round, securing Lebanon's first-ever win in the competition.

Hassan's qualification for the French Open marks the second major milestone for Lebanese tennis this year. In January, Hady Habib, ranked 159th, won a first-round match at the Australian Open, marking Lebanon's first Grand Slam match victory.

The Lebanese Tennis Federation celebrated Hassan's achievement in a heartfelt message on Facebook: "The journey continues. Keep making Lebanon proud."

As the French Open kicks off this Sunday, Hassan is set to face Italian Matteo Gigante in the first round. Gigante, like Hassan, also advanced through the qualifying rounds, setting the stage for an exciting match.
