Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin Lead the 2025 Memorial Tournament Amidst Challenging Weather Conditions

Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin share the lead at the 2025 Memorial Tournament, showcasing exceptional golf despite relentless rain and tough conditions at Muirfield Village.

The 2025 Memorial Tournament witnessed a thrilling second round as Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin emerged as co-leaders, both displaying remarkable resilience amidst challenging weather conditions. Taylor, despite the relentless rain, managed to card a 4-under 68, while Griffin capitalized on a brief respite from the downpour to secure a 72, tying them at 7-under 137.

Taylor's Stellar Performance

Taylor, a former Washington Huskie, leaned on his college experience to navigate the adverse weather. He putted for birdie on all but one hole, keeping bogeys off his card. "It was a clean card, which was not necessarily what I expected," Taylor remarked. "But it was nice to keep it as simple as possible."

Griffin's Consistent Play

Griffin, on the other hand, benefited from a softer Muirfield Village in the afternoon. His round included 16 pars, a birdie, and a bogey, showcasing his consistency. "The course was playing tough, but I managed to keep it together," Griffin said.

Other Notable Performances

  • Akshay Bhatia shot a 69, placing him two shots behind the leaders.
  • Defending champion Scottie Scheffler carded a 70, staying within striking distance.
  • Sam Burns and Justin Rose made significant moves, shooting 65 and 66 respectively, to climb up the leaderboard.

The Cut Line Drama

The tournament's cut line added to the drama, with the top 50 and ties advancing to the weekend. Hideki Matsuyama narrowly made the cut after a dramatic finish on the 18th hole.

Looking Ahead

With the rough at Muirfield Village proving to be a formidable challenge, players are already eyeing the upcoming U.S. Open at Oakmont. "The rough is almost second-to-none," Taylor noted. "It’s a great preparation for Oakmont."

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Taylor and Griffin to see if they can maintain their lead and claim the coveted Memorial title.
