Jared Wilson: The Patriots' Rising Star Center Poised for NFL Success
Jared Wilson, the Patriots' third-round draft pick, is drawing praise for his athleticism and potential to become a key player. Learn more about his journey and the expectations for the upcoming NFL season.

Jared Wilson: A Rare Talent in the NFL
University of Georgia offensive line coach Stacy Searels, a 30-year veteran in the college ranks, has high praise for Jared Wilson, the New England Patriots' third-round draft pick. "I've had nine or 10 centers go and play in the NFL, and Jared is the most athletic of any of them," Searels told ESPN. "He has the tools to really be good."
Wilson's athleticism was on full display at the NFL combine in February, where he clocked a 4.84-second 40-yard dash, the fastest among centers. Searels also highlighted a game against Tennessee where Wilson's agility allowed him to deliver a crushing block on a safety along the sideline.
The Patriots' Offensive Line: A Critical Focus
The Patriots' offensive line has been a point of concern in recent seasons, ranking 31st in pass block win rate last year. With quarterback Drake Maye at the helm, providing a solid infrastructure is crucial. Wilson's ability to play both center and left guard could be a game-changer for the team.
Learning from the Best
Searels has coached notable NFL centers like Ben Jones and David Andrews, both of whom were key players for their respective teams. "I think that connection is going to be huge for Jared. The relationship he'll have with Ben and David -- keep passing the torch for guys that will go and play in that league," Searels said.
Training Camp and Beyond
Wilson's journey to the NFL hasn't been without challenges. He missed two games last season due to a foot sprain and sat out the Senior Bowl. However, his potential is undeniable. "He can be a multi-positional player. I do think as a pulling guard, he will be excellent," Searels noted.
Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf believes center is "ultimately going to be his best position," but left guard is also a possibility. As training camp approaches, all eyes will be on Wilson to see how quickly he can adapt and contribute to the team.
The Road Ahead
Wilson's athleticism, intelligence, and versatility make him a promising prospect for the Patriots. If he can follow in the footsteps of Jones and Andrews, he could become a cornerstone of the team's offensive line. The upcoming training camp will be a critical test for Wilson as he aims to prove his worth in the NFL.
