Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way star, announces his new children's book 'Decoy Saves Opening Day,' co-authored with Michael Blank, set for release in February 2026.

Shohei Ohtani, the Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way star, has ventured into the world of children's literature with his new book, 'Decoy Saves Opening Day'. Co-authored with Michael Blank, this 32-page book is set to hit shelves in February 2026. The cover features an illustration by Fanny Liem, depicting Ohtani and his dog, Decoy, with a baseball in Decoy's mouth.
According to HarperCollins, the publisher, the story revolves around Decoy, who is thrilled about throwing the first pitch on Opening Day. However, Decoy realizes he left his lucky baseball at home and must retrieve it before it's too late. The book promises to be a heartwarming tale that combines the excitement of baseball with the bond between a player and his pet.
Ohtani, a three-time MVP, is not only making waves on the field but also off it. He is a proud sponsor of animal rescue organizations and hopes that the book's publication will support these nonprofits in their mission to help dogs find forever homes.
In addition to his literary endeavors, Ohtani continues to excel in MLB. At the All-Star break, he boasted a .276 batting average with 32 home runs and 60 RBIs. He has also pitched nine innings in five games as he makes his comeback from elbow surgery in September 2023.
