Cineverse and Air Bud Entertainment have announced the release of a new feature film, 'Air Bud Returns,' slated for summer 2026. The film is written and directed by Robert Vince, the creative mind behind the original Air Bud (1997) and the entire franchise, including Air Buddies and Santa Paws.

Vince describes the film as a unique story that will captivate both nostalgic fans and a new generation of viewers. In a recent news release, Vince stated, "This movie will engage nostalgic Air Bud fans while introducing a new generation to the beloved basketball-playing golden retriever, Buddy. It builds upon the legacy of the OG Air Bud with all the fun, the magic, heartwarming scenes, and Buddy playing basketball."

The plot centers around Jacob, a 12-year-old boy who discovers an original VHS tape of Air Bud among his late father's belongings while visiting his childhood home. Jacob soon encounters a stray golden retriever, whom he names Buddy. Together, they embark on a journey of healing, unite a team of misfits, and chase a championship.

This film marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between Cineverse and Air Bud Entertainment, hinting at more adventures featuring Buddy in the future. The original Air Bud was released on August 1, 1997, and grossed $23 million worldwide, cementing its place in cinematic history.
