Stephen Curry's Early Career Dream: From High School Coach to NBA Legend
Discover how Stephen Curry's early dream of becoming a high school coach shaped his journey to becoming an NBA legend, as revealed by his wife, Ayesha Curry.

Imagine a world where Stephen Curry, the greatest 3-point shooter in NBA history, never graced the professional basketball court. Instead, he might have been on the sidelines, coaching high school basketball. This intriguing possibility was revealed by his wife, Ayesha Curry, during an episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.
Ayesha, 36, shared that she initially had no idea Stephen would become an NBA superstar. "I didn't know that he was going to end up playing basketball," she admitted. "He said he wanted to be a high school basketball coach."
Their journey began in 2003 when they first met, and they started dating in 2009. The couple married in July 2011, just four years before the Golden State Warriors clinched their first NBA title in 2015. Together, they have four children.
Ayesha also opened up about the challenges of becoming a famous couple. She confessed that she "hated" being in the spotlight during the early stages of their relationship. Despite the pressures, their bond has remained strong.
Interestingly, Ayesha advised Stephen to stay in school rather than enter the 2009 NBA Draft, where he was eventually selected as the 7th overall pick by the Warriors. Reflecting on this, she said, "He ended up finishing anyway and has gone on to do tremendous, incredible, cool s--- that we never thought would happen, so it's great."
In the 2024-25 NBA season, Stephen averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6 assists per game, earning a spot on the All-NBA Second Team. His journey from a potential high school coach to an NBA legend is a testament to his dedication and passion for the game.
