FA Cup Thriller: United Survive Arsenal Penalty Drama

In a thrilling FA Cup third-round encounter, Manchester United emerged victorious over Arsenal in a penalty shootout at the Emirates Stadium. The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, with substitute Joshua Zirkzee converting the winning penalty for United.

The game got off to a flying start for United, as Bruno Fernandes put them ahead with a superbly taken first-time shot. However, Arsenal equalized from a free kick, with Gabriel's volley deflecting off Matthijs de Ligt and into the net.

United then had Diogo Dalot sent off for a second yellow card, and Arsenal were awarded a penalty. But goalkeeper Altay Bayindir produced a brilliant save to deny Martin Odegaard from the spot.

United held on to force extra-time, but it required a superb clearance from De Ligt to deny Leandro Trossard a tap-in. Zirkzee forced a fine save from Raya moments into the second half of extra-time, but the two teams had to be separated by penalties.

In the shootout, Havertz saw his poor spot-kick stopped by Bayindir, while Fernandes, Amad Diallo, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martínez all scored. Zirkzee then slotted home the winning spot-kick to send United into the fourth round.

FA Cup title-holders United will face a home tie against Leicester City in the competition's fourth round.
