Thomas Detry Dominates Phoenix Open, Eyes First PGA Tour Victory

Belgium's Thomas Detry takes a commanding five-shot lead at the Phoenix Open, aiming for his maiden PGA Tour title with a stellar performance.

Belgium's Thomas Detry is on the verge of securing his first PGA Tour title after extending his lead to five shots at the Phoenix Open. The 32-year-old, who has previously finished as runner-up twice in 65 events, showcased an outstanding performance in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Detry started the day with a two-shot lead and carded seven birdies, including five on the first nine holes, to finish with a round of 65. This remarkable performance brought his total to 18 under par, placing him in a commanding position heading into the final round.

"Getting off to such a good start was kind of the dream," said Detry, reflecting on his early birdies. On the prospect of winning, he added, "It's OK to think about it, but then try to come back in the present. I think that will be the key [for Sunday]."

Trailing Detry are four players tied for second place at 13 under par: Rasmus Hojgaard, Daniel Berger, Jordan Spieth, and Michael Kim. Scotland's Robert MacIntyre also had a strong round, matching Detry's 65, but remains seven shots behind. World number one Scottie Scheffler is a further shot back at 10 under par.

With Detry's impressive lead and consistent form, all eyes will be on him as he aims to clinch his first PGA Tour title at the Phoenix Open.
