Historic Victory: Rizwan and Salman Lead Pakistan to Record ODI Chase Against South Africa

Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha's stellar centuries powered Pakistan to a historic six-wicket victory over South Africa in Karachi.

In an exhilarating one-day international match held at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, Pakistan achieved their highest ever ODI run chase, defeating South Africa by six wickets. The dynamic duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Agha were the architects of this victory, both scoring centuries in a match that will be remembered for years to come.

  • South Africa's Innings: The Proteas set a challenging target, scoring 352-5 in their 50 overs. Heinrich Klaasen top-scored with a brisk 87 off 56 balls, supported by Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke, who scored 82 and 83 respectively. Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, taking 2-66.

  • Pakistan's Response: Chasing 353, Pakistan reached 355-4 in 49 overs, thanks to a record-breaking partnership between Rizwan and Salman. The pair added 260 runs for the fourth wicket, a new record for Pakistan in ODIs. Rizwan remained unbeaten on 122 off 128 balls, including nine boundaries and three sixes, while Salman scored a fluent 134 off 103 balls, which included 16 fours and two sixes.

Mohammad Rizwan reflected on the partnership, stating, "When Agha and I were batting, we set targets. We failed to achieve them a couple of times but mostly did. When God helps, you break all kinds of records. We gave our full effort."

This victory not only showcases Pakistan's batting depth but also serves as a confidence booster as they prepare to defend their title in the upcoming Champions Trophy. Pakistan's next challenge is a tri-series final against New Zealand, scheduled for this Friday.
