Boxing coach Joe Gallagher, a revered figure in the sport, has publicly shared his diagnosis of stage four bowel and liver cancer. The 56-year-old mentor, known for guiding world champions like Natasha Jonas and Anthony Crolla, began chemotherapy in November after receiving the devastating news.

In a heartfelt statement, Gallagher urged others to prioritize their health: 'It's been a lot to take in over these past few months. I just wanted to carry on as normal as possible while I tried to process things. No matter how busy life gets, your health should always come first. We can overlook things and put things off because we're always so 'busy,' but ultimately, there's nothing more important than your health.'

Gallagher emphasized the importance of early detection, revealing he had no major symptoms initially. 'If you feel something isn't right, no matter how small, please don't put it off - go and get checked, as it could save your life.'

Despite his diagnosis, Gallagher remains committed to boxing, finding solace in the sport and his fighters. 'Boxing is giving me that bit of escapism I need right now. As I go through my own battle, being around an incredible team of fighters is helping me continue to do what I love.' Notably, Natasha Jonas is set to fight Lauren Price on March 7 in a welterweight unification bout.

Gallagher, who won Ring Magazine Trainer of the Year in 2015, has mentored six world champions, including Callum Smith, Liam Smith, Paul Butler, and Lawrence Okolie. His journey is a testament to resilience, and his message resonates deeply within the boxing community and beyond.
