Rhian Edmunds Secures Keirin Silver for Great Britain at European Track Cycling Championships

Rhian Edmunds clinched a dramatic keirin silver for Great Britain at the European Track Cycling Championships, narrowly missing gold by a fraction of a second.

Rhian Edmunds delivered a sensational performance on the final day of the European Track Cycling Championships, securing a keirin silver for Great Britain in a nail-biting finish. The Welsh cyclist was edged out by just nine-thousandths of a second by Steffie van der Peet of the Netherlands in the fiercely contested race held in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium. This marked Edmunds' third silver medal of the event, further solidifying her status as one of the rising stars in track cycling.

At just 21 years old, Edmunds showcased her exceptional talent and resilience, contributing significantly to Great Britain's impressive medal tally. The team finished third overall with a total of 11 medals, including two golds from Anna Morris in the women's individual pursuit and Josh Charlton in the men's individual pursuit. The squad also claimed five silvers and four bronzes, highlighting their dominance across various disciplines.

In other events, Lauren Bell secured a respectable sixth place in the keirin, while the men's madison team, Will Perrett and Matt Walls, finished fifth. The women's madison duo, Neah Evans and Maddie Leech, also secured sixth place, demonstrating the depth of talent within the British cycling program.

The championships underscored Great Britain's continued excellence in track cycling, with Edmunds' performance a standout moment. Her near miss for gold will undoubtedly fuel her determination as she looks ahead to future competitions, including the Paris 2024 Olympics, where she aims to add to her team silver and bronze medals from the previous Games.
