Murray McCallum Extends Stay with Newcastle Falcons: A Commitment to Growth

Murray McCallum renews his contract with Newcastle Falcons, reaffirming his role in the team's future as they strive for improvement in the Premiership.

Newcastle Falcons' prop Murray McCallum has officially signed a new two-year contract, committing his future to the Premiership side despite their ongoing struggles. The 28-year-old, who has earned three caps for Scotland, joined the Falcons from Edinburgh in 2023 and has since made 40 appearances, scoring one try.

McCallum expressed his enthusiasm for staying with the club, stating, "My family and I are buzzing to be sticking around. We've made it our home, I can see improvements happening at the club, and I really enjoy coming into work every day." His dedication to the team is a testament to his belief in the Falcons' potential for growth.

The versatile prop has been a key figure in the squad, earning praise from Newcastle’s director of rugby, Steve Diamond, who previously worked with McCallum at Worcester Warriors. Diamond highlighted McCallum’s value to the team, saying, "He plays on both sides of the front row to a high level, he's very durable, and he's brilliant behind the scenes. He's a big character around the place who really helps drive the culture, and it's great that he wants to be part of the growth that lies ahead for Newcastle Falcons."

Despite the team’s current position at the bottom of the Premiership table, with only two wins this season, McCallum’s re-signing signals a commitment to building a stronger future. The Falcons will next face Gloucester in the Premiership Rugby Cup on Friday, 28 February, as they continue their quest for improvement.

McCallum’s journey from Edinburgh to Newcastle, coupled with his resilience and leadership, makes him a cornerstone of the Falcons' aspirations. His extended stay is a positive step for the club as they look to climb the ranks and establish themselves as a competitive force in the Premiership.
