Alastair Chalmers, the reigning British outdoor 400m hurdles champion, is setting his sights on representing Great Britain at the upcoming European Indoor Championships. After securing a third-place finish in the 400m at Birmingham, Chalmers expressed his excitement about the opportunity to potentially join the 4x400m relay squad.

Chalmers, who hails from Guernsey, shared his enthusiasm with BBC Sport, stating, "It's great to be with these guys, I'm mates with all of them so it'll be a really fun opportunity." He emphasized the value of the experience, adding, "It's a good opportunity to work on different things and be in different environments, which is what it's all about."

Despite a challenging 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he fell during the semi-finals, Chalmers remains undeterred. He is now focused on defending his British 400m hurdles title for a sixth consecutive year. His long-term goal is to perform well at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.

Chalmers reflected on his recent performance in Birmingham, where he faced stiff competition from Alex Haydock-Wilson and Josh Faulds. He acknowledged, "I live for these occasions of high pressure situations, which is great, but today I just didn't get it right." However, he remains optimistic about his prospects, stating, "But that's the art of 400m running. Hopefully I can bounce back, go to the Europeans, run a good time with these boys in the mix and 4x400m and go on to outdoors over the hurdles."

With his eyes set on both the European Indoor Championships and the World Championships, Chalmers is determined to continue his impressive track record and make his mark on the global stage.
