Wales Rugby Squad Update: Dewi Lake Returns to Six Nations Amid Injury Recovery

Dewi Lake rejoins the Wales Six Nations squad after recovering from a biceps injury, strengthening the team's roster for upcoming matches.

Dewi Lake's Return to the Six Nations Squad

Wales' rugby squad has received a significant boost with the return of Dewi Lake to the Six Nations team. The hooker, who has been sidelined with a biceps injury, has been called up by head coach Matt Sherratt, increasing the squad size to 38 players. This comes just in time for Wales’ critical matches against Scotland on March 8 and England a week later.

Impact on the Team

Lake, who has earned 18 international caps, last played in the Six Nations in 2022. His experience and leadership, demonstrated during the 2024 summer tour of Australia and the autumn internationals, are expected to be pivotal for Wales. Lake joins fellow hookers Sam Parry, Elliot Dee, and Evan Lloyd, providing depth in the front row.

Team Adjustments and Player Releases

In preparation for the upcoming United Rugby Championship (URC) fixtures, Wales has released several players to their respective clubs. Notable departures include Ospreys trio Dan Edwards, Sam Parry, and Ben Warren, along with Scarlets players Joe Roberts and Taine Plumtree, and Cardiff scrum-half Ellis Bevan. Lake, however, will not be available for the URC match against Glasgow this weekend.

Squad Updates

The squad sees 13 players returning to their clubs in France and England this week. Racing 92 lock Will Rowlands and several Gallagher Premiership players are among those departing the Welsh camp. These adjustments highlight the dynamic nature of international rugby as coaches balance club commitments with national team duties.
