Adkins, who took charge in November 2023, managed 72 games, securing 23 wins but suffering 34 losses. Tranmere currently languishes in 22nd place in League Two, just two points above the relegation zone. Tranmere chairman Mark Palios expressed his gratitude for Adkins's dedication but acknowledged the need for change. Adkins, who hails from Birkenhead and began his playing career at Tranmere, had previously guided the team to mid-table safety in his first season, finishing 16th with 57 points. Just 19 days before his departure, Palios had publicly backed Adkins, stating that sticking with him was the right decision amidst hopes of a club takeover. However, the team's continued poor performance, including defeats at Bradford City and Notts County, and home draws with Fleetwood and MK Dons, sealed Adkins's fate.
