Huw Anderson Secures Long-Term Future with Dragons RFC: A Rising Star in Welsh Rugby

Huw Anderson, the promising full-back, has signed a new long-term contract with Dragons RFC, marking a significant step in his rugby career.

Huw Anderson, the 20-year-old full-back and winger, has officially signed a new long-term deal with Dragons RFC, solidifying his place in the team's future. Anderson, who hails from Caerphilly, has made a significant impact since his debut in 2023, featuring in eight games this season and scoring two memorable tries.

Breakthrough Season

Anderson's breakthrough moment came in November during the European Challenge Cup, where he scored a stunning solo try against Newcastle on his first start for the region. He followed this up with another try against Scarlets on New Year's Day, showcasing his growing confidence and skill on the field.

Local Hero

Growing up in Gwent, Anderson has always been a fan of the Dragons, often watching games at Rodney Parade. His journey from local clubs to the professional stage is a testament to his dedication and talent. "It's massive for me to be able to represent the Dragons," Anderson said. "I'll always remember watching games down at Rodney Parade and standing on the pitch being part of the guard of honour with Caerphilly RFC."

Future Prospects

Anderson is optimistic about the future, both for himself and the team. "I believe Dragons RFC is the best place for me to be, hopefully continuing to play regularly and learn my trade," he added. "I also think that next year we'll have a lot more success with stronger squad depth and the right people in place to drive us forward."

Coach's Perspective

Dragons Head Coach Filo Tiatia has high praise for Anderson, stating, "Huw has enjoyed a breakthrough season for us and has worked very hard to earn his opportunity and now cement his place in the side. He is one of a number of talented homegrown players we can build the team around in the years to come."

International Experience

Anderson has also made his mark on the international stage, earning six caps for Wales Under-20s. He made his debut in the 2024 U20 Six Nations, scoring a try against Scotland, and continues to be a promising prospect for Welsh rugby.

This new contract not only secures Anderson's future with the Dragons but also highlights the club's commitment to nurturing young, local talent. Fans can look forward to seeing more of Anderson's dynamic play in the seasons to come.
