Bristol Bears Secure Key Players: Thacker and Marmion Extend Contracts

Bristol Bears announce contract extensions for Harry Thacker and Kieron Marmion, securing their key players for the future.

Bristol Bears have made a significant move in securing the futures of two of their most influential players, Harry Thacker and Kieron Marmion, with new contract extensions. The club has not disclosed the exact lengths of these contracts, but the signings are a clear statement of intent as they look to build on their recent successes.

Harry Thacker: A Pillar of Bristol Bears

Harry Thacker, the 31-year-old hooker, has been a cornerstone of the Bristol Bears since his arrival in 2018. With an impressive tally of 60 tries in 127 matches, Thacker has outscored any other forward in the club's history. His dynamic playing style and leadership qualities have made him an indispensable part of the team.

Pat Lam, Bristol's director of rugby, praised Thacker's influence both on and off the field. "Harry's dynamic and attacking skillset perfectly suits the Bears' way of playing," Lam said. "His experience is key in a young and exciting squad."

Thacker, who joined from Leicester seven years ago, expressed his pride in the club's progress. "From where the club was seven years ago, fighting to stay up, to where it is now, competing against the best in the Champions Cup, is something I take a lot of pride in," he said. "I feel this team has so much more left in it and can't wait to play my part in that."

Kieron Marmion: A Consistent Performer

Kieron Marmion, the 33-year-old scrum-half, has also committed his future to Bristol Bears. Since joining from Connacht in 2023, Marmion has been a consistent performer, scoring 8 tries in 19 matches this season. His experience and skill have been vital in the Bears' campaign.

Lam highlighted Marmion's contributions, stating, "He is a true team man who continues to compete hard with Harry Randall for the number nine shirt." Marmion's international experience, with 34 caps for Ireland, adds a wealth of knowledge to the squad.

Looking Ahead

With both Thacker and Marmion secured, Bristol Bears are well-positioned to continue their upward trajectory in both the Premiership and Champions Cup. The club's commitment to retaining key players underscores their ambition to compete at the highest levels of rugby union.

As the new season approaches, fans can look forward to seeing these two stalwarts continue to lead the charge for Bristol Bears, aiming for more silverware and memorable performances.
