Jamie Vardy, the captain of Leicester City, has openly expressed his disappointment and embarrassment over the club's recent relegation from the Premier League. Following a 1-0 loss to Liverpool, Leicester City confirmed their immediate return to the Championship, marking their second relegation in the past three seasons.
"No words can express my feelings of anger and sadness with the way this season has gone. There are no excuses," Vardy shared on social media. He acknowledged the stark contrast between the club's past successes and the current season's failures, describing it as "miserable" and a "total embarrassment."
Vardy, who has been with Leicester City since 2012 and was instrumental in their Premier League title win in 2015-16, apologized to the fans for the team's poor performance. Despite his efforts, including scoring seven goals this season, Leicester City ended up 19th in the Premier League table with only 18 points from 33 games.
The appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as manager in November did not turn the tide for the Foxes. Vardy, who has made 496 appearances for the club, reflected on the highs and lows of his time with Leicester, emphasizing the pain of this season's outcome.
Leicester City's relegation has sparked discussions about the future of the club and its players, with fans and analysts alike pondering the next steps for this once-celebrated team.
