Eilish McColgan has made history by setting a new Scottish marathon record at the London Marathon 2025. The 34-year-old athlete finished eighth with an impressive time of 02:24:25, surpassing Steph Twell's previous record of 2:26:40 set in Frankfurt in 2019. McColgan also eclipsed her mother, Liz McColgan's, best time of 2:26:52 achieved in 1997.

In her marathon debut, McColgan had modest goals, aiming primarily to complete the race without any issues. However, she admitted to having a few "loose goals" which she more than achieved. Known for her prowess in middle and long-distance running, McColgan has previously won medals at the European level in the 3,000m, 5,000m, and 10,000m events. She also clinched gold in the 10,000m and silver in the 5,000m at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

Rose Harvey of Great Britain finished just behind McColgan in ninth place. The event was highlighted by Tigst Assefa, who set a new women's-only world record with a time of 2:15:50, securing her victory in the annual marathon.

The London Marathon 2025 saw a record number of participants, with 56,000 runners taking on the challenging course. The event continues to be a major highlight in the global athletics calendar, attracting elite runners and amateur enthusiasts alike.
