Paddy Pimblett's Remarkable Weight Cut Journey to UFC 314 Victory

Discover how Paddy Pimblett achieved a stunning 40lb weight cut to secure his victory at UFC 314, extending his unbeaten streak in the UFC.

Paddy Pimblett, the Liverpudlian MMA sensation, made headlines with his incredible 40lb weight loss leading up to his triumphant fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 314. This dramatic transformation was crucial for Pimblett to meet the lightweight limit of 156lb, showcasing his dedication and discipline.

Starting at 190lb just seven weeks before the fight, Pimblett embarked on a rigorous regimen of diet and daily training. "Been heavier to start with," Pimblett shared, highlighting the challenges of his journey. He maintained a strict 2,000-calorie daily intake, which initially led to a slow weight loss of only three pounds in the first week, leaving him frustrated.

However, by fight week in Miami, Pimblett had successfully reduced his weight to 175lb, and further down to 170lb two days before the official weigh-in. The UFC's standard procedure requires fighters to weigh in on the morning before the fight night, followed by a ceremonial weigh-in later that evening. Pimblett managed to cut an additional 13lb, reaching 157lb the night before the fight.

"That was one of my easiest weight cuts," Pimblett remarked, despite the significant amount of weight he had to lose. The UFC generally advises that fighters can safely cut between 8% and 10% of their body weight before weigh-ins. Pimblett exceeded this threshold but found his target weight of 170lb during fight week to be ideal for a manageable weight cut.

His victory over Chandler not only extended his unbeaten streak in the UFC to seven but also improved his overall record to 23 wins and just three losses. This fight was a testament to Pimblett's resilience and strategic planning, both in and out of the octagon.

Pimblett's UFC 314 Weight Cut in Numbers:

  • Starting weight: 190lb
  • Weight at fight week: 175lb
  • Weight two days before weigh-in: 170lb
  • Weight the night before the fight: 157lb

Pimblett's journey to UFC 314 is a compelling story of athletic discipline, highlighting the physical and mental challenges faced by MMA fighters in their quest for victory.
