Arne Slot Confirms Trent Alexander-Arnold's Departure to Real Madrid
Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirms Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid, expressing disappointment but understanding the player's decision.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has publicly acknowledged the impending departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. The 26-year-old full-back, who has been a cornerstone of Liverpool's defense, will leave the club when his contract expires on 30 June 2025.
Slot expressed his disappointment, stating, "We're disappointed for him leaving because not only a good human being is leaving the club but also a very, very good full-back is leaving us as well." He also hinted at the inevitability of Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid, saying, "You see by my smile we both know where he's going to but it hasn't been said yet."
Alexander-Arnold, who has spent 20 years at Anfield, announced his decision to leave on Monday. Real Madrid has already approached Liverpool to secure his services before his contract ends, aiming to have him ready for the FIFA Club World Cup starting on 14 June in the United States.
Slot also confirmed that Conor Bradley, a 21-year-old Northern Ireland international, will start at right-back in the upcoming match against Arsenal. This move is seen as a preparation for life after Alexander-Arnold. Slot, who has experience dealing with player departures from his time at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord, remains optimistic, stating, "If a very good player is leaving then the next player will step up and that's probably what's going to happen now."
The match against Arsenal will be Liverpool's first since Alexander-Arnold's announcement. Slot refrained from dictating how fans should react, saying, "I am not here to tell the fans how they should react." He emphasized the importance of focusing on the game, adding, "I am hoping that all the energy on Sunday goes to the players and less as possible to Trent - unless it is positive, then they can do whatever they want."
This transition marks a significant moment for Liverpool as they prepare to bid farewell to one of their most influential players. The club's ability to adapt and integrate new talent will be crucial in maintaining their competitive edge in the Premier League and beyond.
