Lambourn secures a decisive win at the Chester Vase, positioning itself as a top contender for the upcoming Epsom Derby.

In a thrilling display of stamina and speed, Lambourn claimed victory at the Chester Vase Stakes, a key trial for the prestigious Epsom Derby. Under the expert guidance of jockey Ryan Moore, the 11-8 favorite surged from third place in the final straight to win by a length and a half. Lazy Griff and Convergent followed in second and third places, respectively.
Trainer Aidan O'Brien, who extended his record to 11 wins in the Chester Vase, praised Lambourn's performance:
"He looked a thorough stayer and while he was a little on and off the bridle, once the penny dropped, he came home really strongly."
O'Brien also highlighted Lambourn's potential for the Epsom Derby:
"He got the trip really well and he's gone through the line nicely. At this stage, you'd have to say he's on the Epsom team."
The Chester Vase is part of a busy week of trials, with events at Lingfield, Leopardstown, and York. O'Brien emphasized the importance of these trials in preparing horses for the Derby:
"We were thinking of sending him to Epsom, as they learn so much when they go to Chester."
