Wrexham's Rise: Inspired by Liverpool's Legacy and Premier League Dreams
Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney draws inspiration from Liverpool's anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' as the club aims for Premier League glory.

Wrexham's Journey to the Top
Co-owner Rob McElhenney has expressed his admiration for Liverpool's iconic anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, seeing it as a symbol of the spirit and community Wrexham aims to embody. Since Hollywood duo McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over the club in 2021, Wrexham has achieved three consecutive promotions, now sitting just one step below the Premier League.
The Power of Community
McElhenney highlighted the emotional connection between a football club and its community, stating, "It's the relationship and the love that you have for each other and your community is forged in pain, which I think says something beautiful about humanity." He believes that sport serves as a powerful metaphor for unity and resilience.
Premier League Ambitions
Wrexham's ultimate goal is to reach the Premier League, a vision that was met with skepticism initially. McElhenney recalled, "People would laugh when we would say that [Premier League being the target], especially members of the press, and fans and lots of people would laugh." However, with their recent success, the laughter has subsided, and the dream feels more attainable than ever.
A Legacy of Inspiration
McElhenney's admiration for Liverpool extends beyond their anthem. He hopes that one day Wrexham can compete with the Reds, but for now, he celebrates their achievements. "One day I hope to mash their dreams into oblivion, but for now I celebrate along with Humphrey [Ker, Wrexham board member] because he loves Liverpool," he joked.
Looking Ahead
As Wrexham prepares to return to the second tier after 43 years, the club's leadership remains focused on their Premier League aspirations. McElhenney and Reynolds have proven that with determination and a clear vision, even the most ambitious dreams can become a reality.
