Worcestershire Bolsters Squad with Pakistani Seamer Khurram Shahzad for Season's Final Stretch

Worcestershire signs Pakistani seamer Khurram Shahzad, enhancing their bowling lineup for the season's crucial matches.

Worcestershire has secured a significant addition to their squad by signing Pakistani seamer Khurram Shahzad, starting from 4 July until the end of the season. This strategic move aims to strengthen their bowling attack as they push for success in the remaining fixtures.

Key Details of the Signing

  • Player: Khurram Shahzad
  • Role: Seamer
  • Nationality: Pakistani
  • Experience: 20 wickets in 6 Tests, 201 wickets in first-class cricket
  • Availability: County Championship, One-Day Cup, and T20 Blast

Shahzad's Impact

Shahzad, who made his Test debut against Australia in December 2023, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Pears. Known for his ability to swing the ball and consistently bowl over 80mph, he is expected to be a valuable asset in both the County Championship and limited-overs formats.

Statement from Shahzad

"Joining a club like Worcestershire and getting the chance to enhance my skills is something I am really excited by," Shahzad said. "I have always had ambitions to play in England, so this was a chance I was desperate to take."

Coach's Perspective

Head coach Alan Richardson expressed his enthusiasm about the signing, highlighting Shahzad's potential to mentor younger bowlers. "Not only will he give us tremendous options with his ability to swing the ball and bowl in excess of 80mph on a regular basis, his experience around the dressing room with some of the younger bowlers will be invaluable," Richardson stated.

Upcoming Debut

Shahzad is set to make his Worcestershire debut against Yorkshire in the T20 Blast at Headingley on 4 July. This match marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting chapter for both Shahzad and Worcestershire.
