Scotland's Hamish Stewart is on the brink of making his mark at the prestigious Wimbledon men's singles tournament. The 25-year-old from Strathblane, currently ranked 550th in the world, showcased his resilience and skill in a nail-biting match against Frenchman Luca Van Assche at Roehampton.

Stewart triumphed with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, securing his place in the last 32 of the qualifying event. His next challenge will be against Switzerland's Leandro Riedi, with the top 16 players advancing to the main draw at SW19.

Reflecting on his performance, Stewart shared, "It was a bit of a blur. I threw in a dodgy service game at 5-4 and felt like I was there in the tiebreak, but I was 8-4 down. He threw in a double fault at 8-4, and I thought, 'Okay, he's feeling it,' so I continued to get balls in court and stay aggressive. Somehow, I won."

Stewart, who previously played in Junior Wimbledon during his teens, has now won four matches at Roehampton. He expressed his excitement about the experience, saying, "It's been a rollercoaster. I've had a bit of luck, but I feel I was due a bit of luck, and I'm loving the experience."

As Wimbledon begins on June 30, Stewart joins fellow Scots Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie, who have already secured their spots in the main draw. The tennis world eagerly anticipates Stewart's next match, hoping to see him continue his impressive run.
