Bobby George: The Darts Legend Who Built a Mansion Fit for a King
Discover the story of darts legend Bobby George and his extravagant 18-bedroom mansion in Essex, a testament to his larger-than-life personality.

Bobby George, the self-proclaimed 'King of Bling' of the darts world, has always been known for his flamboyant style and larger-than-life personality. His extravagant lifestyle reached new heights when he built an 18-bedroom mansion in Ardleigh, Essex, during the 1990s. Complete with three fishing lakes, a bar, and 12 acres of land, the estate, aptly named George Hall, became a symbol of his success and love for the grandiose.
A Dream Home with a Twist
George, now 79, admitted that he "overdid it" with the number of bedrooms in his mansion. Initially, the blueprints included 28 rooms, which planners deemed "over the top." Reflecting on his ambitious project, George joked, "My poor wife has got to clean them all." Despite the excess, the mansion stands as a testament to his creativity and determination.
A Life in the Spotlight
Bobby George was one of the first big names to emerge from the darts scene in the 1980s. Known for his flamboyant entrances and love of gold jewelry, he quickly became a fan favorite. His return to the limelight in June 2024, after revealing he kept one of his amputated toes in a jar of vodka at home, only added to his legend.
Building a Legacy
While constructing his dream home, George learned new skills, including welding and installing granite floors. He and his wife, Marie, lived in a portable building in the garden during the construction. "I built a bathroom first so we could use a bathroom, then a bedroom and a kitchen," George explained. "I finished them and then I finished room after room after room."
Reflections on Excess
Despite his pride in the mansion, George admitted he could have toned it down. "I made a few mistakes when I done this: I had too many bedrooms from kick-off," he said. Yet, George Hall remains a unique reflection of his personality and achievements in the world of darts.
