Canadian teenager Summer McIntosh continues to make waves at the World Aquatics Championships, clinching her second gold medal in the 200m individual medley with a stunning time of 2:06.69. This victory keeps her on track to potentially match Michael Phelps' record of five individual titles at a single world championship.
McIntosh, who already secured gold in the 400m freestyle, demonstrated her versatility and dominance in the pool. Alex Walsh of the United States took silver, while fellow Canadian Mary-Sophie Harvey claimed bronze. Abbie Wood of Great Britain finished sixth in the same event.
In the diving arena, Great Britain celebrated a bronze medal in the men's 3m synchronised event. Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding scored 405.33, narrowly missing silver but showcasing their resilience and skill. The pair, who have previously won two silver medals together at the World Aquatics Championships, expressed their determination to continue their journey towards the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, China's diving duo Wang Zongyuan and Zheng Jiuyuan dominated the event with a score of 467.31, securing the gold medal. Mexico's Juan Celaya and Osmar Olvera took silver with 449.28.
In other events, Ben Proud of Great Britain narrowly missed his national record in the men's 50m butterfly, finishing just 0.04 seconds short. The women's 10m synchro platform saw Lois Toulson and Maisie Bond of Great Britain finish fifth in their first world final together.
McIntosh’s next challenge will be the 400m individual medley, where she aims to continue her historic run. The World Aquatics Championships continue to deliver thrilling performances, setting the stage for the upcoming 2028 Olympics.
