Palace manager Oliver Glasner expressed confidence in both players, stating, "Marc [Guehi] and Eze trained well the whole week. Of course, there is no reason not to start them." He also cautioned fans, "Don't believe everything you read in the newspapers."

Palace chairman Steve Parish indicated that the club would sell their captain this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer at the end of his contract. Palace are reportedly seeking around £40m for Guehi, although Liverpool are aiming to pay less.
