Vaughan's Five-For Puts England U19s on the Verge of Triumph
Archie Vaughan's stellar bowling performance propelled England U19s toward victory over South Africa.

In an electrifying display during the second Youth Test held in Cape Town, Archie Vaughan emerged as a pivotal figure, taking five wickets to steer the England Under-19s close to a vital series win against South Africa. Starting day three with a challenging position, South Africa's Under-19 squad seemed solid at 108-3 in their second innings. However, the momentum shifted when Vaughan, making his entry as the sixth-change bowler, unleashed his off-spin bowling with devastating effect.
With 13.5 overs of masterful spin bowling, Vaughan wreaked havoc on the South African middle order, claiming five wickets for just 18 runs. The Proteas, who appeared to have a comfortable grip on the match, suffered a sudden middle-order collapse, losing five wickets for a mere 37 runs. They concluded the day at 145-8, holding only a 16-run lead and two wickets remaining.
Previously, England began the day on 251-8. Their efforts were significantly bolstered by a resilient performance from Aaryan Sawant, who scored 130 runs before being run out. His partnership with Alexander Wade for the ninth wicket was pivotal, contributing 127 runs and allowing England to declare their first innings at 353.
Archie Vaughan had made a modest impact in the first youth Test, bagging a solitary wicket, but his performance on this decisive day underscored his capabilities and potential. Having debuted for Somerset in July 2024, Vaughan showcased his bowling skills throughout the County Championship, taking 15 wickets in addition to a notable average of 33.71 with the bat.
As the son of Michael Vaughan, a renowned former England captain, Archie’s impressive debut continues to draw parallels with his father’s illustrious cricketing legacy, defined by memorable victories, including the famous 2005 Ashes series win against Australia. With only one day left in this gripping encounter, all eyes will be on Vaughan as England aims to seal the victory and clinch the series in style.
