Colorado Rockies Make Strategic Moves: Activate Ezequiel Tovar and More Ahead of Diamondbacks Clash
The Colorado Rockies activated Gold Glove shortstop Ezequiel Tovar and made several roster moves ahead of their game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Colorado Rockies have made a series of strategic roster moves ahead of their Friday night game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The most notable activation is Gold Glove shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, who returns from the 10-day injured list after recovering from a left hip contusion. Tovar, 23, last played on April 15 and has a season batting average of .212 with four doubles, a triple, and four RBIs in 16 games. Over his four-season career with the Rockies, Tovar boasts a .258 batting average, 42 home runs, and 157 RBIs in 335 games. He was also the National League's Gold Glove Award winner at shortstop last season.
In addition to Tovar, the Rockies activated Tyler Freeman (oblique) and Aaron Schunk (groin) from the injured list. Freeman has struggled this season with a .091 batting average in seven games, while Schunk has shown promise with a .250 average in the same number of games.
The Rockies also promoted left-handed pitcher Carson Palmquist from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Friday's game. Palmquist, 24, will make his major league debut after posting a 3.82 ERA in seven Triple-A starts this season.
To make room for these activations, the Rockies optioned outfielder Sean Bouchard (.169) and right-hander Anthony Molina (one scoreless appearance) to Albuquerque. Additionally, they designated shortstop Alan Trejo (.175) and second baseman Owen Miller (.143) for assignment.
These moves highlight the Rockies' commitment to strengthening their lineup and pitching staff as they face the Diamondbacks in a crucial series.
