Kevin Phillips Exits AFC Fylde: A Mutual Decision Amid Relegation Fears

After a brief stint, Kevin Phillips and AFC Fylde have mutually decided to part ways as the team struggles in the National League relegation zone.

In a surprising turn of events, AFC Fylde and their manager Kevin Phillips have officially parted ways after just four months. This mutual decision comes as the team finds itself in a precarious position, dangerously close to the National League relegation zone. Phillips, a former Sunderland and England striker, took the helm at AFC Fylde in October following his tenures at South Shields and Hartlepool United.

A Tough Stint at AFC Fylde

Phillips' tenure at AFC Fylde was marked by a challenging run, with only five victories in 18 league matches. This disappointing performance has left the team in 22nd place, just one point shy of safety. The club, which was promoted to the National League as National League North champions in the 2022-23 season, had managed to stay clear of relegation last year by finishing in 18th place, five points above the drop zone.

Interim Leadership

In the wake of Phillips' departure, David Longwell, the current assistant coach, will take charge of the team on an interim basis. The club has stated that a permanent replacement will be sought in due course.

What's Next for Phillips and Fylde?

The future remains uncertain for both Phillips and AFC Fylde. While Phillips' reputation as a seasoned striker and emerging manager precedes him, AFC Fylde will need to regroup quickly to stave off the looming threat of relegation. The coming weeks will be crucial as the team looks to stabilize under interim leadership and secure their position in the National League.
