England's Cricket Stars Shine in Wisden's 2024 Honors
Discover how England's Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith, and Sophie Ecclestone earned their spots among Wisden's 2024 Cricketers of the Year, highlighting their exceptional performances.

The prestigious Wisden Cricketers of the Year for 2024 have been announced, with England's Gus Atkinson, Jamie Smith, and Sophie Ecclestone making the esteemed list. This recognition, based on their performances during the previous English summer, continues a tradition that has celebrated cricket excellence since 1889.
Gus Atkinson made a sensational Test debut against West Indies, claiming 12 wickets and amassing a total of 52 wickets throughout the year. His batting prowess was also on display with a century against Sri Lanka at Lord's.
Jamie Smith, stepping in as England's new wicketkeeper, showcased his skills with a century at Old Trafford against Sri Lanka, finishing the series with an impressive average. His performances have solidified his position in the team, outperforming other contenders like Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes.
Sophie Ecclestone stood out in a challenging year for England's women's team, becoming the first English woman since 2019 to be named in the Wisden five. Her exceptional bowling has kept her at the top of the world rankings in both white-ball formats.
Joining them are Hampshire's Liam Dawson and Surrey's Dan Worrall, who have also been recognized for their outstanding contributions. Meanwhile, India's Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana were named the leading cricketers in the world, with West Indies' Nicholas Pooran taking the title for the world's leading T20 player.
This year's Wisden almanack not only celebrates these individual achievements but also reflects on a season of highs and lows for English cricket, from unbeaten home series to a disappointing T20 World Cup exit.
