Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Madrid Open Due to Injury

Carlos Alcaraz, the Spanish world number three, has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to a hamstring and groin injury sustained during the Barcelona Open final. Despite this setback, Alcaraz remains optimistic about his readiness for the upcoming French Open.

Injury Details and Recovery Plan

Alcaraz revealed that he injured his hamstring and groin during the second set of the Barcelona Open final against Holger Rune. Although he received on-court treatment and resumed the match, Rune eventually won 7-6 (8-6) 6-2. Alcaraz stated, "In a week or two I shall return to training, but I will take it step by step."

Focus on French Open

Alcaraz, who has won four Grand Slam titles, emphasized the importance of listening to his body. "I couldn't practice the entire week. I needed to listen to my body and make the right decision," he said. Despite missing the Madrid Open, Alcaraz is confident in his ability to compete at the French Open, which begins on May 25.

Future Tournaments

Alcaraz plans to travel to Rome for the Italian Open, starting on May 6, as part of his preparation for Roland Garros. Even if he doesn't play competitively before the French Open, Alcaraz remains unfazed. "If I don't play Rome, or if I don't play any tournaments before Roland Garros, I don't care about it," he said. "I know what my level is, I know what I have to do to play good tennis."

Mental Strength and Confidence

Alcaraz highlighted his mental resilience, stating, "Mentally I think I'm strong to play good tennis again, so this is not going to take my confidence away." His past performances, including victories at the Monte Carlo Masters and two Madrid Open titles, bolster his confidence for the upcoming challenges.
