Lewis Richardson: From Olympic Glory to Professional Boxing Stardom
Olympic bronze medallist Lewis Richardson transitions to professional boxing, aiming for world titles under Frank Warren's guidance.

Olympic bronze medallist Lewis Richardson has officially turned professional, marking a significant milestone in his boxing career. The 27-year-old from Colchester, who was Britain's sole boxing medallist at the Paris Olympics, has joined Frank Warren's prestigious Queensberry Promotions stable. This decision comes after months of deliberation about his future, following his impressive amateur career that included a European silver and Commonwealth Games bronze in 2022.
Richardson's journey to professional boxing began with a passion for fitness, initially taking up boxing to enhance his football skills. However, his talent quickly shone through, leading him to become a national schoolboy champion in 2012. Despite setbacks like stress fractures in his back, Richardson's resilience and dedication saw him achieve a medal double in 2022, followed by his Olympic success in Paris.
In a recent video released by Queensberry Promotions, Richardson expressed his aspirations: "My inspiration as a professional is to go all the way, to win a world title. I remember watching the likes of Joe Calzaghe, Richie Woodhall, and in more recent years, of course, the likes of Tyson Fury. Years and years of experience, Frank has. It gives you goosebumps knowing you are joining a very illustrious group of fighters."
Promoter Frank Warren, renowned for his eye for talent, believes Richardson is an "A-star amateur" who will quickly make his mark in the professional ranks. While the date and venue of Richardson's first professional bout are yet to be confirmed, the boxing world eagerly anticipates his debut.
GB Boxing has also expressed their support, stating on X: "We thank you for your commitment to the WCP since joining us back in January 2018. Wishing you all the very best for the future, forever a part of the GB Boxing family."
Richardson's transition to professional boxing not only highlights his personal ambition but also underscores the evolving landscape of British boxing, with new stars emerging to carry the torch forward.
