Iga Swiatek Dominates Italian Open: Eyes Fourth Rome Title and French Open Glory
Iga Swiatek advances to the Italian Open third round with ease, aiming for her fourth title in Rome and preparing for the French Open.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek showcased her dominance at the Italian Open, cruising into the third round with a commanding straight-set victory over Italian wildcard Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The Polish world number two secured a 6-0, 6-1 win in just 52 minutes, winning 28 of 35 service points and not facing a single break point.
Swiatek, who has won three of the last four titles in Rome, continues her impressive run at the tournament, with 18 of her past 19 matches ending in straight-set victories. Her only exception was a retirement in the 2023 quarter-final against Elena Rybakina. Next, she faces Danielle Collins, who defeated Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania 6-3, 6-3.
At just 23 years old, Swiatek is already a force to be reckoned with. She has reached at least the quarter-finals in her last eight tournaments and is now setting her sights on a fifth title in six years at the French Open, which begins on May 25 at Roland Garros.
Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka continues to defy expectations on clay. The 27-year-old, who has traditionally struggled on this surface, secured a hard-fought 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Swiss lucky loser Viktorija Golubic. This win extends her clay-court winning streak to seven matches, following her triumph at last week's L'Open 35 de Saint-Malo, her first clay-court title since becoming a mother in July 2023.
Osaka was initially set to face ninth seed Paula Badosa, but the Spaniard withdrew due to injury, paving the way for Golubic. Next, Osaka will take on either Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil or Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic.
In other matches, Italian Jasmine Paolini advanced to the third round with a straight-set victory over New Zealander Lulu Sun, 6-4, 6-3. Paolini, the sixth seed, will now face Ons Jabeur, who received a walkover after Petra Kvitova withdrew due to injury.
The Italian Open continues to deliver thrilling matches as players gear up for the French Open, the second Grand Slam of the year.
