Panjab Warriors Seal Delayed Morecambe Takeover: A New Era Begins

Panjab Warriors finalize the delayed takeover of Morecambe, marking a new chapter for the historic football club.

The long-awaited takeover of Morecambe by Panjab Warriors has finally been agreed upon, as confirmed by current owner Jason Whittingham. This development comes after a tumultuous week that saw the club's board threaten administration if the sale wasn't completed by Tuesday.

Turbulent Times at Morecambe

The National League side faced significant internal strife, with Whittingham attempting to remove the board the day after the initial deadline. However, the deal between Whittingham's Bond Group Investments and Panjab Warriors has now been finalized and is set to be formally completed on Monday, 7 July 2025.

Relegation and Revival

Morecambe, who were relegated from League Two last season after 18 years in the English Football League (EFL), are now looking to rebuild under new ownership. Whittingham has invited the former directors back to oversee the final stages of the sale process, a move that has been unanimously agreed upon.

Financial Commitments

Panjab Warriors have already paid £3.8 million to Bond Group, along with a separate payment of £630,000 to clear outstanding loans against the club. Additionally, the group has loaned a further £1.7 million over the past 14 months to ensure the club's survival.

Statements from Key Figures

In a statement on the club website, Whittingham expressed his commitment to moving forward:

"All we can promise is that we will do everything in our powers to make it happen, get wages paid, and begin at last to look forwards."

Morecambe's MP Lizzi Collinge also weighed in, urging Bond Group to expedite the sale of the 105-year-old club.

A New Chapter

This takeover marks the end of a difficult period for Morecambe and the beginning of a new era under Panjab Warriors. The club, which reached League One in 2021, will now compete in the National League next season for the first time since 2007.
