James Anderson Joins Manchester Originals for The Hundred: A Legend’s New Chapter
England's cricket legend James Anderson joins Manchester Originals for The Hundred, marking a new chapter in his illustrious career.

England’s cricket icon, James Anderson, has been selected by Manchester Originals for the upcoming The Hundred tournament. This marks the first franchise tournament in Anderson’s remarkable 25-year career. The legendary pace bowler, who will turn 43 in August, was picked in the wildcard draft, adding another milestone to his storied journey.
Anderson, England’s all-time leading wicket-taker, retired from international cricket last year but has continued to showcase his prowess in domestic cricket. Earlier this year, he signed a one-year deal with Lancashire and has already made an impact in the T20 Blast, his first T20 cricket appearance in 11 years.
The Hundred’s wildcard draft allows each team to add two players to their squad, and Anderson’s inclusion brings both experience and skill to the Originals. His association with Old Trafford, Lancashire’s home ground, continues as the Originals are based at the same venue. Notably, one end of the ground is named after Anderson, a testament to his legacy.
If Anderson features in The Hundred, he will become the competition’s second-oldest player, following spinner Imran Tahir, who played for Birmingham Phoenix at 43 in 2022. The tournament kicks off on 5 August and concludes with the final at Lord’s on 31 August.
Anderson’s return to domestic cricket and his selection for The Hundred highlights his enduring passion for the game. Fans eagerly await his performance as he continues to inspire the next generation of cricketers.
