Guernsey FC has been expelled from the FA Cup following an administrative error that led to the fielding of an ineligible player. This decision came after their 1-1 draw with Bedfont Sports in the extra preliminary round of the competition, which was their first competitive match of the season.

On Monday, the club released a statement acknowledging the registration error with one of the players who participated in the match. This error has resulted in the postponement of the planned replay between the two sides in London, pending the outcome of an investigation.

"We have just received official confirmation that the club has been removed from this season's competition, and that Bedfont Sports Club FC has been awarded the tie and will progress to the Preliminary Round," the statement read.

Bedfont Sports will now host Kingstonian on 16 August, while Guernsey FC's next game will be their first-ever match in the Southern Combination Premier Division when they host Wick at Victoria Park on Saturday.

This incident marks the second time this year that a Channel Island side has been sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player. In April, Jersey Bulls were docked three points for playing a player who should have been suspended, a decision that ultimately cost them the Combined Counties Premier South league title. Despite this setback, the club later won promotion to the Isthmian League South East via the play-offs.

This expulsion is a significant blow to Guernsey FC, highlighting the importance of meticulous administrative practices in competitive sports.
