Bournemouth and PSG in Transfer Battle: Diakite and Zabarnyi Deals Heat Up

Bournemouth and PSG are in the spotlight as they negotiate deals for Lille's Diakite and Zabarnyi, with both clubs aiming to strengthen their defenses.

Bournemouth have reignited their interest in Lille defender Bafode Diakite as Paris St-Germain (PSG) close in on a £55m deal for Illia Zabarnyi. The Cherries had previously stepped back from negotiations due to Lille's £35m valuation for the 24-year-old center-back. However, with PSG nearing an agreement for Zabarnyi, Bournemouth are back in the race for Diakite.

Sources close to Diakite reveal that the former France Under-21 player has verbally agreed to a five-year contract with Bournemouth, although the clubs are still negotiating the transfer fee. Lille president Olivier Letang had initially been hesitant to sell Diakite but acknowledged the possibility of a departure when questioned last Friday.

Bournemouth are also looking to bolster their defensive lineup, especially after Dean Huijsen's £50m move to Real Madrid earlier this summer. The club is also considering signing an additional striker to compete with Evanilson. Bournemouth have shown interest in Chelsea's Josh Acheampong and Sevilla's Loic Bade as potential defensive reinforcements.

Meanwhile, PSG are optimistic about finalizing Zabarnyi's transfer within the next 48 hours, aiming to integrate him before the French season commences. Despite reported interest from Tottenham, all parties are confident in completing the deal. Additionally, PSG are said to have secured Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier for £35m, as they face a contract standoff with current number one Gianluigi Donnarumma.
