Filip Nowacki Dominates 100m Breaststroke at World Junior Championships
Filip Nowacki, a rising star from Jersey, secures a spot in the 100m breaststroke final at the World Junior Championships with an impressive performance.

Filip Nowacki has made a significant impact at the World Junior Championships in Otopeni, Romania, by storming into the final of the 100m breaststroke as the fastest qualifier. The 17-year-old swimmer from Jersey clocked an impressive 59.24 seconds in the opening semi-final, outpacing his competitors and solidifying his position as a top contender for the gold medal.
Nowacki's performance in the semi-final was nothing short of spectacular. He finished ahead of Evangelos Ephraim Ntoumas from Greece, who came in second with a time of 59.77 seconds, and fellow Briton Max Morgan, who secured third place with 59.93 seconds. Shin Ohashi from Japan, who won the second semi-final in 59.72 seconds, was the only other swimmer to break the one-minute mark alongside Nowacki.
Earlier in the competition, Nowacki had already shown his prowess by winning the last of nine heats in 59.84 seconds. This consistent performance has set high expectations for the 100m breaststroke final, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening.
Nowacki is not just a one-event wonder. He is also set to compete in the 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke events later this week, where he is expected to continue his quest for multiple medals. His potential to become one of Jersey's greatest sports competitors is evident, and he is determined to replicate his success from the European Junior Championships held in July.
At the European Junior Championships in Slovakia, Nowacki dominated the breaststroke events, securing gold medals in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke, along with a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke. His achievements included setting a new European junior record in the 200m breaststroke and breaking the British junior record in the 100m breaststroke, previously held by Adam Peaty, a multiple Olympic gold medallist and world record holder.
As the World Junior Championships progress, all eyes will be on Nowacki to see if he can continue his remarkable form and add more accolades to his growing list of achievements.
