From Epic Celebrations to Glory: Ryan McGowan's Scottish Cup Dream Comes Alive Again

Ryan McGowan shares his journey from a legendary Scottish Cup win to aiming for another Hampden glory with Livingston. Discover the stakes in this thrilling quarter-final.

Ryan McGowan, the Australian footballer, is no stranger to the magic of the Scottish Cup. His memorable performance in the 2012 final, where Hearts triumphed over Hibernian with a 5-1 victory, remains etched in football history. McGowan's fourth goal in that match was pivotal, and the celebrations that followed were nothing short of legendary.

'I was pretty drunk for probably close to two weeks,' McGowan reminisces about the aftermath of the 2012 cup win. 'Everywhere you went, people had taken time off, and the drinks just kept coming.'

Fast forward to the present, and McGowan is once again in the spotlight as Livingston prepares to face St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup quarter-final. The stakes are high, with both teams eyeing a semi-final berth at Hampden.

Livingston, currently in the Scottish Championship, is not just aiming for cup glory but also promotion to the Premiership. On the other hand, St Johnstone, struggling at the bottom of the Premiership, sees this match as a pivotal moment in their season.

McGowan acknowledges the dual focus of his team. 'Our main goal at the start of the season was promotion, but we also wanted a good cup run,' he says. 'We've got a great opportunity to reach the semi-final, but they'll be thinking the same.'

Livingston's journey to the quarter-finals has been impressive, with victories over Brora Rangers, Premiership Ross County, and Cove Rangers. The win over County, in particular, has been a confidence booster for the team.

'Beating Ross County was crucial for our confidence,' McGowan notes. 'It reminded us of the step up in quality we need to handle, and we'll need to bring our A-game on Monday.'

As McGowan and his teammates prepare for the crucial match, the dream of another Hampden final looms large. 'Let myself dream,' McGowan says with a smile. 'Maybe one more shot at glory. We'll see how Monday goes. Playing back at Hampden in a semi-final and having the chance to make another final would be incredible.'
