Middlesex Cricket Club has announced the appointment of Dane Vilas as their interim coach for the remainder of the season. The 40-year-old South African, who boasts an impressive career with over 10,000 first-class runs and 25 centuries, steps in following the departure of Richard Johnson.

Vilas, who recently retired from professional cricket in 2023 after a successful stint with Lancashire, is no stranger to leadership. He captained Lancashire to promotion in his first season and led them to two runners-up finishes in the County Championship. His experience and competitive edge are expected to bring a fresh dynamic to Middlesex.

A New Chapter for Middlesex

Vilas took charge of his first match at Wantage Road on Sunday, following Middlesex's thrilling one-run victory over Essex in the T20 Blast. This win marked their first in three years at Lord's, signaling a potential turnaround for the team.

Alan Coleman, Middlesex's director of cricket, expressed his confidence in Vilas's ability to lead the team. "Dane has a wealth of experience to offer our squad, and I believe that we will all benefit from his presence and leadership across the rest of this season," Coleman stated.
