They now own approximately 100 helmets and 120 shoulder pads funded through grants, making it easier for families to get involved without hefty upfront costs. "Growing the game is about going out to grassroots, meeting people where they are. There’s a real investment in the local community," states Bell.

"They wouldn’t exclude me from anything. As soon as we got outside, it was all bonding together again. They could see, 'she’s not shying away, she’s here.'"
